UPLOADING IMAGES FROM YOUR PHONE, ETC.

UPLOADING PICS TO GOOGLE DRIVE APP:

Since you can only access your .net Padua gmail or your Google Drive at school, the easiest thing to do is upload pics to Google Drive.

  1. Download the Google Drive App to your phone.
  2. Sign in to your .net school account.
  3. Tap on the + symbol.
  4. Tap on UPLOAD File.
  5. Go into your Photos & Videos.
  6. Select & Upload (I suggest you create a folder in your Google Drive to place all of your pictures so they are easier to locate.)

KEEP THIS IN MIND!! Depending on Wifi factors & traffic, uploading (particularly an app) can take quite some time at school, so keep in mind that it will always be a quicker process at home.

HOT TIP FOR INSERTING UPLOADED PHOTOS INTO PROJECT:

Once your pics are in your drive, go into your project (in Google slide or wherever) and select INSERT > from GOOGLE DRIVE (notice that you do not want to select Upload here; instead, go right into your Drive to select your pics).

AN EMERGENCY EMAIL OPTION FOR GETTING PICS:

In a pinch, you could also gmail them to yourself (from your Padua .net email to your same Padua .net email address).

TIPS FOR TAKING PICS OF PICS:

If you have photos that are in an album on in a frame, etc., I suggest taking a pic of them to get them onto your phone. If you want them to look a bit nicer, you can use a free photo app like Google PhotoScan. Then you upload them to Google Drive as explained above.

FREE IMAGES

As responsible citizens, we should all be concerned about copyright. Images (photos, clipar, logos, etc.) carry the same copyright regulations as the written word. Luckily, there are many high quality pictures that can be used in school projects without any licensing concerns. These can include images that are released under creative commons, or are in the public domain, or are simply copyright-free.

Keep in mind that regardless of copyright, some teachers may still require you to cite where the image came from to provide proper attribution, which is good practice and is a standard requirement at the college and career level. So it would be wise of you to know the originating source of an image.

Here are some sites and tools for free photos, clipart, icons, and more:

DOWNLOADING IMAGES ON YOUR CHROMEBOOK

To save a picture from the internet on a Chromebook, you can do any of the following:

SAVING IMAGE OPTION:

  1. Right-click the image by lightly tapping the trackpad/mouse with two fingers.
  2. Copy image (and paste where you'd like)...OR...select "Save image as."
  3. You could select "show in folder" (where you can rename it if you'd like) or "copy to clipboard" at this point; however, it is better to do this:
  4. Under Download Complete > click on the name of the pic (example: DSC_3312) > go to left hand corner to rename the pic (example: call it Bruno & Bella) > then click on the 3 dots to the far right > Save as > and save it to a folder in your drive (name the folder "Pics for X Project" etc.).

REMINDER FOR USING GOOGLE FOR PICS:

  • When you are searching Google for a pic, do NOT select and save the small thumbnail (which will result in poor quality); instead, whenever the option is available, select the pic > visit > to open the actual pic to get its actual size > save image from here.

OTHER FYI:

  • Control + s (save an image)
  • If you don't specify a location, the image will be saved to your Downloads folder. To view the downloaded photo, you can click Show in folder; however, your Chromebooks have very limited hard drive space, so they may sometimes delete downloaded files to free up space.

CAPTURING/SNIPPING IMAGES USING YOUR CHROMEBOOK

If you’re trying to just get a select portion of an image, a snipping tool is very helpful. To use this tool on a Chromebook, do the following:
