PROJECT GUIDE (WHEN USING BOTH TEXT & IMAGES)

Teachers often assign projects that incorporate both text & images. While you should always follow your teachers directions/guidelines/rubrics, many of you ask me for help with technical issues, so I wanted to provide some assistance via this LibGuide, which you can reference from anywhere at anytime. Refer to the boxes on this page for assistance.

HOW TO ACCESS TEMPLATES (VIA GOOGLE SLIDES)

BEST/EASIEST OPTION WHEN DOING A PROJECT CONTAINING BOTH TEXT & IMAGES:

When doing any type of project that incorporates both text and images on the same page (or even just images), it’s typically much easier to use GOOGLE SLIDES instead of DOCS. I have created some premade templates to make this process easier (or you can explore public-made templates or create your own). Note that some templates are in landscape mode, some are in portrait mode, and some are in presentation mode, so you may have to adjust sizing to fit your project.

TO ACCESS PRE-MADE TEMPLATES, DO THE FOLLOWING

(DIRECTIONS ALSO IN IMAGE BELOW):

  • Drive > (1) New > (2) Google Slides (scroll toward the arrow on the right) > (3) From a template >  (4) Padua Franciscan High School (or General if you'd like to explore public-made templates) > (5) Select template that best fits your project

GOOGLE SLIDE SUGGESTIONS (WHICH ARE ALSO LISTED ON THE ACTUAL TEMPLATE ONCE YOU OPEN IT):

  • NAME PROJECT: After opening the template, Immediately NAME it, so you can find it easily in your Drive.

  • DUPLICATE SLIDES: Keep selecting Slide > Duplicate Slide (so you make your changes on a new slide and still keep these directions on the first slide). I duplicated a couple pages for you.

  • ADD IMAGES: Add images of any size, wherever/however you would like on a page. Just select Insert > Image Remember: You have to load the images onto your Drive, so you may want to add the Google App to your phone so moving images from your phone to your Drive is easier (refer to LibGuide for more help on this if needed).

  • TEXT BOXES:

    • DELETE TEXT BOX: If you don’t want the text box on the page, just delete it by selecting it > right click > Cut

    • USE TEXT BOX: If you want to use the text box, just delete my writing, add your own, change font type, color etc. You can move the text box anywhere on the page you’d like.

    • ADD TEXT BOX: If you want more text boxes, just Insert > Text Box.

    • TEXT BOX BORDERS: If you do not like the border that I have surrounding the text box, take it off (or change or add borders) by going to Format > Borders & Lines > and change it to white, so it does not show.

  • SIZING: If you prefer to put this project back into normal slide size in landscape format,  just go to File > Page Setup > Standard or Widescreen.

  • ADD-ONS: You can add so many other things like shapes, lines, tables, etc. by going to Insert > (select)

  • TOOLBAR: There are so many cool things you can do. Just explore that toolbar for options.

TEMPLATES & HELPFUL SITES

Here are additional links for some creative templates & sites. Be aware that some of these may be Google Slides and some may be Google Docs. I'm providing links to interesting sites, but I have not personally used many of these, so I cannot vouch for level of user-friendliness.
